It is impossible to determine in advance how much time will be needed to handle your divorce. If issues of spousal support, community property division and child visitation rights require litigation, divorce cases can become lengthy.
We charge an initial consultation fee of $300, which is due at the time of the consultation. During the consultation, your attorney will discuss with you North Carolina law and how it applies in your case. Our attorneys work with fee advances ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 depending on the nature and complexity of the case. Some matters such as uncontested divorces and uncontested separation agreements are billed on a flat fee basis.
Sometimes, but not always, the court will order reimbursement of part or all of a client’s attorney’s fees and expenses. Because awards of attorney’s fees are uncertain, you will be responsible for payment of all attorney’s fees and expenses up front.
As family law attorneys and trained mediators, we will work to settle your case without litigation in order to minimize your emotional and financial costs. But we will aggressively protect your interests and take your case to court if mediation and settlement negotiations fail.
